Tool Short #4: Enduro Bearing Punches

We've all been there - removing a bearing and attempting to avoid uneven pressure on the inner race with a standard punch or other tool. Not anymore! Enduro’s Pro bearing punches are the company’s fastest way to remove accessible bearings from suspension linkages and hubs.

The kit comes with 7 individual punches labeled with the corresponding bearings inner diameter: 8, 10, 12, 15, 17, 18, and 20mm. The punches nest perfectly on the inner race and are then hammered out. Since the only point of contact is the inner race, any bearings that are removed with this tool should absolutely be replaced. It almost goes without saying but this tool should never be used to install bearings.

There are some limitations to this design. For hubs or linkages that have the same inner diameter and are sleeved between parallel bearings, you’ll have to use a standard punch or an extractor for at least the first bearing in order to access the second bearing. For hubs that utilize the axle to remove the first bearing, this set makes removal a single-tool operation. These tools may fill a small niche, but if you find yourself in a situation where you can use them instead of an extractor they are excellent at what they do!
